Why It Matters
Embeddable players convert website visitors into listeners. Not everyone uses podcast apps—embedded players meet those listeners where they are.
Why embeddable players matter:
-
Conversion: Website visitor → listener without leaving your site.
-
Non-podcast users: Many people don't have podcast apps but will click play on a website.
-
Context: Listen while reading show notes or related content.
-
Social integration: Easy to share with inline playback.
-
SEO complement: Audio content attached to searchable text content.
Website integration strategies:
| Page Type | Embed Approach |
|---|---|
| Episode blog post | Single episode player |
| Homepage | Latest episode or featured |
| Podcast landing page | Full playlist |
| About page | Show trailer/intro |
| Article mentions | Relevant episode |
Player vs app listening:
| Aspect | Embedded Player | Podcast App |
|---|---|---|
| Friction | Low (click play) | Higher (install, subscribe) |
| Retention | One-time (usually) | Ongoing subscription |
| Features | Basic | Full |
| Offline | No | Yes |
The conversion funnel:
Website visitor
↓ (sees embed)
Plays episode in browser
↓ (likes content)
Subscribes in podcast app
↓ (regular listener)
Embed players are the top of this funnel—they're often how non-podcast-users become podcast listeners.
